Singapore is one of those places it is hard not to love. There are few other places that cater so ideally to an easy getaway - amazing transport system, fabulous and cheap food reflecting the diversity of the city and a safe, welcoming outlook.
It had been several years since we travelled to Singapore before this three night visit in 2013 for the Formula 1 Singapore race, and it was great to see how Singapore's world-class transport and attractions have been taken to the next level. The city was looking great.
Make no mistake, Singapore is expensive. If a weekend of luxury is what you are after, Singapore is the ticket - five star hotels, spas, restaurants abound. For the budget traveler, things are trickier - though a number of budget accommodations have cropped up and food at hawker centres and around places like Little India are great value.
The ideal length of time to stay for my money is around five days - any longer and you might be casting about for things to do.
Recommended for Visiting Singapore for the city-state's Formula 1 round is a must for any lover of the sport - it is well organised, takes place in the heart of the city and has a great party atmosphere.
Visiting Singapore at any time of year has plenty to offer families - with attractions like the Singapore Zoo and Sentosa Island enough to content the most difficult-to-please children for hours. I am already planning a visit with our little one in tow.

Catching Formula 1 on one of the most exciting circuits in the world
Exceptional food
Spots we missed There were a number of bars and restaurants that we missed due to lack of time, or them being closed for private F1 parties on the nights we visited - and we are still yet to try Singapore's famous chilli crab!
